Guzman de Yarza co-founded J1 Architects, a Madrid-based office that currently undertakes projects and supervises construction projects in Spain. Prior to this, he worked for the well known Madrid firm, Andres Perea Architecture. The firm’s work extends across a broad range of types, including residential, sport facilities, commercial and interior design. Built works have been recognized nationally and internationally, receiving awards such as the 2014 Architizer A+ Award for the Best Sport and Recreation Building or the elevated sport court for an elementary school in Zaragoza Spain. His works have also been extensively published in offline and online specialized magazines such as Arquitectura Viva, Dezeen or the Pahidon Atlas of World Architecture, among others.
Guzman de Yarza simultaneously develops a career as a visual artist, specializing in documentary film making, as well as architect; this combination enriches both practices. His films have been exhibited at the Reina Sofia National Museum (Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía), the Contemporary Art Museum of Vigo (MARCO), the Jeu de Paume Museum in Paris, the Centro de Arte Recoleta de Buenos Aires, the National Centre for Contemporary Arts in Moscow, the International Triennale of Prague and at several national and international exhibitions.
Guzmán de Yarza Blache received his professional degree in architecture from the University of Navarra in 2002.
